Singapore Airlines (SIA) will be retiring its remaining Boeing 747-400s next month, after nearly 40 years of service. The wide-bodied jet is scheduled to operate its last commercial flight to Melbourne on 24Mar12, returning to Singapore on 25Mar12.

SIA is now planning a series of events to commemorate the B747-400. The airline will display one of its three remaining B747-400s at this week’s Singapore Airshow 2012, offering more than 1,000 members of the public the chance to take a guide tour of the aircraft’s cabin on 18-19Feb12. Specially-created boarding passes will be distributed to visitors at the Airshow on a first-come, first-served basis. Further events commemorating SIA’s B747 will also be announced at the Airshow next week, while a special commemorative flight is also being planned.

SIA’s B747-400 carried 375 passengers, with 26 business class seats on the upper deck and 349 seats in three classes on the lower deck.
